Gargles
Whenever the throat is sore , the first thing one hears from the mother is that gargle it and it will be fine. Educated people often do not agree with the family unless the doctor also confirms the same. Does Gargling Really Relieve Throat Problems?
Osmosis:
A process in which water moves from a lighter solution to a thicker solution but with a curtain or membrane in between. Think of it like this: put a thin screen or membrane between a vessel and pour plain tap water on one side of the vessel and salt water on the other side. Now it will happen that normal water will be lighter than salt water, so it will float through this screen or membrane and come to the other side. This process is called osmosis.
Now what does osmosis have to do with throat?
Actually, when our throat is swollen or sore, it hurts, actually it is an attack of bacteria and viruses. These germs attack the wall of our throat, as a result of which the immune system of the body activates the defense system and thickens the cells there so that these bacteria cannot penetrate further. Now they cling there and start breeding. Here, the final decision has to be made in a few days whether they will continue their generation or die here. If this generation is able to increase, then more parts of the body will be affected and life will be lost, while if it starts to decrease, then the health of the person will improve. Here, osmosis, i.e. the process of gargling salt water, is very beneficial. What happens is what was mentioned above in the definition of osmosis. Because these bacteria cling to the cell walls (membranes) of our throat. Salt water is thicker and the water inside the cells of our throat is lighter, so it starts to flow through the cell membrane to the salt water. As a result, these bacteria and viruses also start coming down. Now you throw out the water that is full of these bacteria. Thus gargling several times a day starts improving the throat.
Gargling not only solves throat problems, but bacteria clinging to teeth, damaged gums, mouth sores can also be removed by rinsing with salt water. The process is the same as osmosis. However, gargling too much can dehydrate the mouth and throat, so hands should be kept light.
Correct way to do Gargles
Add about a spoonful of salt to a glass of water and mix it. Remember that the water does not need to be hot for gargling, normal room temperature water will do the trick. In fact, warm water dissolves the salt quickly and does not hurt the sensitive teeth. Gargle with a mouthful of water and spit it out after a few seconds. The purpose of gargling is that the water splashes well and spreads all over the throat and almost covers every part. Never swallow the last sip of water at the end of the swallow, as this will carry the bacteria from the swallow into the stomach. It is better to just rinse the last few sips so that the germs in the mouth are well removed. Clean the part of the sink by pouring a little more water on the water taken out from the sink so that no one else gets these germs.
In short gargles are scientifically proven good for sore throat.
